I never thought I'd be citing Urban Dictionary but here we are.

My steadfast belief is that your own body of work is the only real way to show anything. That I've worked in this industry, we did these things, here's what worked and these are the results.

Case studies, especially in SEO and AI search, are those pieces of definitive proof.

Building Receipts is a publication of my body of work over 15 years in search, mainly SEO and more recently AI search.

SEO and AI Search

The SEO industry has always had many sides and much noise but now, thanks to AI Search, way more than ever.

The key is to cut through the noise; focus on what's relevant and what works for you and your brand.

You don't need to pick sides.

Have I had failures? Damn right I have. It's a right of passage and a worthy result of constant experimentation.

I just won't publish those as case studies on my website when I'm trying to get clients to work with me — but ask me on a call and I just might share.

One of the really key benefits of this is context.

Context is often overlooked. Every industry operates differently, every domain and site has its own unique relationship with Google and AI.

What may work in one world won't necessarily work in another.

You may have all the levers of organic growth available to you, but not all of them are relevant to you and your context.

Cut through the noise.

(Chalk that up as yet another reason why AI tools can't do SEO or GEO on autopilot).

It's not just AI that fails here, it's also the junior account managers your work gets handed off to and the rigid playbooks of legacy agencies.

Evidently, there has been strong teams working with and alongside me through many of these results across so many of the most competitive industries in SEO and AI search.

Historically you couldn't get results like these on your own. (Now? Anything is possible).

Typically I've led and built these teams from the ground up while remaining as close to the detail as I should.

The beauty of this is that I've built a network (and friends); people who are at the very top of their game in their specialist areas: Digital PR, branding, Reddit, GTM, content, SEO support, paid media.

I refer and bring these people in with complete confidence if a project calls for it.
